In this series I set up a self experiment on dreams. In each iteration I start with a very focussed intention, a specific question or get into a concentrated state of mind before going to sleep or preferably after my evening meditation and ask for a dream as a response from my body, mind and being to this very specific intention/question. If I remember my dream in the next morning, or the specific part that is relevant to my intention I contemplate about it and make a painting about it so that I can recreate the imagery, atmosphere, language, symbolism and energies of the dream and the intention.
My goal is to strengthen a communication channel between my own different states of consciousness. There are many channels where information flows through different scales, most of them we are not even explicitly aware of, but that doesn't mean that information doesn't reach us and doesn't influence us. Exactly the very question of what does it mean "us" in this regard, that is the most interesting. Each day we slip into another state of consciousness, that we call sleeping that happens in many stages and cycles, REM phase and dreaming one of them. We tend to look at ourselves as a static individual and we associate the experience of ourselves with the normal waking consciousness. But truth is we are cycling over many states of consciousness through the day, and many of them we are not even aware of, like deep sleep. Where is the individual and the self experience when those stages occur? How consciousness transforms between all these stages? Dreams are produced by our very own body and cells and processes, our dreams grow out of our current state of reality similarly as we grow out from our mother's womb into this reality. It is a choice of where we put our attention and focus, where we sow seeds of intimacy, what we feed our consciousness while cycling through states of reality. Part of eliminating the illusion of the static self is to start to listen to the many processes that take place in our mind and body, both in waking and other altered states of consciousness. Even this distinction, the normal waking state and everything else as altered is illusionary itself. There are many methods to induce these other states of consciousness, both extrinsic and intrinsic, my goal in this series is to make a connection between my waking reality and the rest 99% of my other realities.
It is dating my own dreams, putting all the excitement and love and attention and focus into it. I sit on top of a huge quantum computer running billions of processes with a unique operating system and graphical user interface. It's time to open up the applications and wander around in our home directory, maybe we stumble upon an icon that looks like an internet browser and get access to a vast network that we are hooked onto as well.
